Be careful with comparison websites

I have used comparison websites to look for better deals on my gas and electricity. However, although the result is a saving of up to £100, when I go into detail and check tariffs etc., the figures don't add up. I am very savvy with numbers (having a maths and accountancy background).
Just double check as the figures "saved" seem to be very inflated!

As you felt the need to sign up to MSE to post such an alarming statement, I'm sure you could give us full details of the example you have come across.

i.e. comparison site used, the details you input (current supplier & tariff, supply region, annual consumption figures in kWh), the suggested supplier and annual cost according to website.
The calculated annual cost you believe your current supplier costs and that which the suggested supplier will cost.
