Who's paying for the groomsmen's suit hire?

I personally think if you are dictating what a person wears and you have asked them to do a job at your wedding you should pay.

Thanks for all the replies, has really given me some food for thought.
Originally when we first started planning I wasn’t too bothered about OH suggesting that the men pay for their own suits. However, when I sat down and started to think about it my thinking became that the only way we should expect them to pay for a suit was if they were wearing their own suits and they didn’t have one.
I think one of the best men said he would pay for his own as he may not turn up and the other just followed suit (excuse the pun).
I think I will stand firm on this and tell him either we pay for suit hire or they wear their own and we pay for matching shirts and ties.0 -

My sentiments exactly. We paid for the whole bridal party's outfits. The groomsmen don't even get to keep their suits!0
