Who's paying for the groomsmen's suit hire?

Options
Hi All,

OH and I are having a difference of opinion.

I think that we should pay for them, OH wants to ask the Ushers to pay for them.

The bestmen have offered to pay for their own, I'm fine with this as they offered without being prompted.

I know OH is only thinking of trying to save money as the budget is tight but I think that if we can't afford to pay they should wear their own.

I have seen on a couple posts on forum's that some are asking for the groomsmen to pay for their own but I always thought that it was up to us to pay for hire.

What is everyone else doing?

  • We will probably pay for them ourselves. If we don't then they will wear their own suits and we will pay for matching shirts/ties.

I am of the opinion you have asked them to do this role for you why should they be out of pocket for the privilege same with BM's

  • We will be paying for ours. We have asked them so feel its up to us to pay for them. I personally wouldn't feel right asking.

We paid as we also felt that since we were asking them to wear something specific they shouldn't be out of pocket. Wish I'd cared a little less about the "best-woman"s suit now though!
  • If you want to say what there where then generally it up to you to pay.

  • We're paying for them. To be honest, I hadn't even thought about the boys paying for themselves, but I guess lots of girls pay for (or contribute to) their bridesmaid dresses these days and it's not really any different to that.
  • We are planning on paying for ours and the bridesmaid dresses, however when my brother has been an usher for a few of his friends, he has either paid in full or at least contributed to the cost. He is an usher at ours, and was surprised to hear that we would be paying for it. Similarly, my godmother was surprised to hear that we were paying for the bridesmaid dresses, as she was expecting to have to pay for her daughter, who is one of our bridesmaids.

One way of looking at it, is that if they have their own suit and were planning on wearing that, they would have to pay dry cleaning costs before/after wearing it (or buy a whole new suit, which my OH had to do to attend a wedding as a guest last year).

If your bestmen are planning on paying for their own, would they then find it a bit odd that you are paying for the ushers?

We are paying for the suit hire for the groom, best man, my father and two ushers. There are three additional male guests who wish to hire suits and they are paying for their own. I am paying for my BM's dresses too so it works both ways. TBH - as the best man and the two ushers are family and four out of five of the BM's are too - it is likely we would have ended up paying anyway.

I agree with the chain of thought that if you want to specify what they wear then you should pay. We paid for the groomsmen and bridesmaids outfits. I think it needs to be equal - like laura_hoggle says - If you are paying for ushers you should pay for best men.

We paid for all the bridal party's outfits. I wouldn't have DREAMT of asking them to pay.
