Advice needed

Hi Everyone,
Looked around the site and found it very useful but I need some advice.
To cut a long story short, my debts started getting out of control about 3 and a half years ago. I had always had debts such as credit cards and car loans but was never out of control of them, then I found myself pregnant, my then partner who is now my ex-partner is self employed so there wasn't a steady income from him, but he wanted to move to a bigger house and although I was doubtful I did agree (what an idiot).
The mortgage payments were higher and I had to reduce my hours when I returned to work after my baby was born, therefore my salary was reduced as well. I not only paid half the mortgage but I paid the childcare fees which was like a second mortgage, I also paid most bills, so yes I got in debt over it. This is not the reason my ex- partner and myself split up, which happened 7 months ago. I moved in with family and still there. Sold the house, I received more from the proceeds then he did, which paid a lot of the debt, but I'm still £45,000 in debt, £28,000 is a CCJ which is my previous bank and which I am going to look into reclaiming the bank charges. The other debts, the creditors and one debt company has agreed to monthly payments.
My question is would I still be able to enter into a IVA and is there anything I can do regarding the CCJ, I can't pay this amount of money in full, but as mentioned I am staying with family and would love to find a place to live for myself and my child, but obviously can't get a mortgage so looked into renting and one letting agent refused me because they did a credit check and saw the CCJ, now found another letting agent who don't do a credit check but they take up references with employer and bank, since I haven't had any problems with my current bank account I'm hoping everything will be ok and the letting agent don't find out about the CCJ.
The only thing keeping me going at the moment is my baby who is now 4 years old and is my live.
Any advice will be greatly received.
Many thanks

Hi Mosie :hello: Welcome to the forum. It's great to have you here.
I'm sorry that I don't have any constructive advice regarding the possibility of an IVA but one of the pros will know and will be along soon.
Can I just say well done on getting as far as you have. You've had a major mountain to climb and you're getting there. Once you get a home sorted you'll feel so much better. I was interested to read about the rental agencies as very soon I will be in the same position. Let me know how you get on.
Take care,

First of all, have you registered on your local council's housing waiting list? If not, do it now. Depending on where you live, there will probably be a very lenghtly wait (where I work, on average 4 years for a one bed flat, longer for a house). You should also apply to every Housing Association in your area, as they have their own waiting lists and MAY be able to offer you something quicker.
Are you getting all the benefits that you're entitled to, such as Child Tax Credits and Working Tax Credits?
Not sure about the IVA, but it may be worth you talking to someone like Consumer Credit Counselling Service on 0800 138 11 11 or your local CAB for advice.BCSC # 9 and proud! :beer:0 -
Thank you all for your comments and I will let you know smilealot how it goes with the rental agencies.
The local council can't help me unless I am in temporary accomodation i.e hostal. I have registered with the local housing association, they wanted to know what happened to the proceeds of the house, which I have told them in writing, so now I am just waiting to hear from them.
Regarding the tax credits, I have been on to them, they have adjusted my benefits so I am receiving what I am entitled to.
I will talk to CCCS regarding the IVA.
Many Thanks0 -
whether or not a IVA/DMP or otherwise is appropriate for you depends upon your financial situation.
If you would like to post an SOA ..full details of your financial situation then it would be possible to give advice on your options.0
