Hi
Can anybody let me know, if you have got a debit balance on your energy bill, could you switch suppliers or do you have to be in credit first? Thank you

You will just get your final bill and that's it. I see no problem. Not many are in credit when switching.0

Hi you are probably ok up to about £250 otherwise they might block a switch. They may also take into account your payment history .0

as previously posted the existing supplier can object to a transfer if the debit balance is to large and also if your last bill was a number of months ago and your estimated charges would leave your account in significant arrears. A guideline of £250 is a reasonable figure and a final balance letter will be generated if the switch went ahead0

If you are not in arrears (i.e. you have not been asked to pay an amount and failed), then a switch will not be blocked for an account being in debit.
Be aware that the existing supplier will expect the final bill to be settled immediately on issue.0
