  • I was also mis-sold a 123 credit card by one of their banking staff ie Salesperson. When I telephoned the branch an spoke to the manager all he could do was try to convince me that the credit card really is worth having rather than listening to me. If he had have listened to me then he would have realised I was extremely unhappy about having the wool pulled over my eyes and that he was in fact making this worse by not acknowlegding the fact that a member of staff under his so called management had misold me a product an therefore wasted everyones time. I am now leaving santander for good and making sure i inform everyone I know about how poor a company they are.

Ive since found out that this has also happend to my partners mother...in the same branch!!:(

I suggest you phone the credit card department and get the card cancelled and then make a complaint to the CEO about the manager and advisor.

I got the same drivel from them after phoning to ask them not to put marketing rubbish through my front door, or be subjected to a future £50 'admin charge' in the future for the inconvenience of sending it back to them.

Needless to say, I've not heard from them since. I'd rather have a heavily discounted holiday each year than a couple of percent in cashback. Avios aren't taxable, the majority of cashback is in my case.

Just in case people start worrying where/when cashback is taxable:

HMRC statement of Practice 4/97 says:

"In general, ordinary retail customers purchasing goods, investments or services at arm's length will not be liable to income or capital gains tax in respect of any commission, discounts or cashbacks received by them. For example, an ordinary retail customer who, when purchasing a car, negotiates to receive part of the commission earned on the sale by the salesperson will not be liable to income or capital gains tax in respect of that commission."

Thanks for that, I should have made it more clear.

I'm a Company Director, and put around £30k a month on the card for the company.

This will NOT usually be a problem for the average consumer.
