So on Friday my company called the administrators in and laid off the entire workforce due to insolvency.
I read endless articles but cant really get my head around it.
So I will go to the government to claim redundancy, 17 years , I used that calculator.
But do I still get any notice period as we werent given any what so ever and holiday pay owed ? If so who gives me this as the company doesnt have money to pay.
Also, Im now going through the claiming of housing benefit and JSA , this is all very new to me, has anyone any idea of how long it takes for housing benefits ? Rents due on the 1st , eeeeek.

Re housing benefit it really does depend on local authority, however you cannot be evicted for arrears of 1 month, have you spoken to your landlord regarding this?Baby Mazza due New Years Day 2013!0

When I got made redundant 6 years ago this is what happened.
I was given a claim form to fill in by the administrators, I filled it in and sent it off to some government department (sorry I can't be more specific it was a while ago and my head was all over so the details are fuzzy).
The maximum weeks anyone could claim then was 12 weeks, you get one week for each years service so if you've done more than 12 years you still can only claim 12 as a maximum.
Because I was given no warning I also got 12 weeks compensation so in effect I got double.
The maximum amount then was about £300 per week so I got 300 x 12 weeks redundancy & £300 x 12 compensation. = £7200
I also got the amount of holidays I had left at the rate of £300 per week.
If I got a job within 12 weeks of being made redundant I would lose the compensation at that point. i.e. if I found a job after 6 weeks I would not get paid the £300 per week compensation after that point.
I hope some of this is helpful to you, as I stated this was 6 years ago, I don't know if the details have changed much since then.
Good luck!0
