Condensation

Hi all
My daughter has moved into a private rented property and the windows and cill are soaking every morning, the property is single glazed.I was drilling into walls the other day as well and my drill was sticking and when I pulled it out instead of dust it was more like clay !
Would a property be this damp and full of condensation if left for several months ? The landlords have just bought house and I think it had been empty for a good 8 months.
I'm hoping it will dry out but if not what will help as she's expecting a baby very soon and don't want all this moisture in house

The first thing to do is improve the ventilation.
Yes, if it's been empty and unheated for 8m then it will have made things worse.
But if the walls are damp then that is not condensation, but more likely rising damp or external damp getting in.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Buy a Dehumidifier and run it.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

As above ^^ dehumidifier to help dry the place out. Sounds as though there is a damp problem that is adding to the condensation as well.
She really needs to keep a couple of windows slightly open to get some air movement through the house as well. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
Thanks for info guys will try and get a Dehumidifier first then see if it helps0

We have the same issue and gradually improving the situation. Dehumidifier works well and takes a lot of water out of rooms. We find the bedroom is the worse place so we open the two windows there when we sleep. Them two things have improved the situation.
Also use fans if you have them for the bathroom or kitchen or at least open the windows in these rooms when cooking, bathing.
It all helps. Otherwise it will ruin your decoration.0 -
dehumidifiers are good. also when i was growing up i remember my dad having a constatnt battle with condensation on the single pain windows. and you used to be able to get the strip that was like spongey and you could cut it to the lengh of the window sill and it would soak the water up so in morning you could squeeze it out rather than it all run all over the window sill and down wall if there was loads.0
