Its people like like that are killing us plasterers and giving us bad names
I agree jason, as I have gone in to decorate after quite a few plasterers, and Other than wiping thier kr@ppp from windows, switches etc,:p I have had hardly any making good to do, its the genuine ones that have to put up with the aftermath of the dodgy ones.:eek:0 -
Glad to hear at least you are getting your money back Urban,:D but, me being me, (and I am a tradeslady, P&D), I would not treat any of my clients like that, and I feel that after you get things sorted you must report this person, as some other poor person who could be in the same situation as yourself is going to get stitched up.
It does make my blood boil, as they are genuine people out there, but these shysters are making life difficult for the genuine ones.
I'll give you a for instance.....
I have been off work this week, long easter break lol, back at work on monday, so I cant help but noticing that there is 3 exterior painters across the road from working on an elderly man house.
I could see what they were doing, or not doing, as I do it for a living, I dont work on exteriors any more, (getting too old for that malarky)so I normally stick to interiors.
Well, I couldnt help but noticing that they didnot sheet up the poor mans drive, or put any protection on his window panes, and never even covered the dark red slates on the old boys porch.
So as time is going by, I can see blobs of paint on his windows, loads of droplets on his red slate roof, and splodges all over his drive, as well as loads of fag butts .
I waited till they went home (Coward that I am, well, I'm only little):D and knocked on the old boys house, I have lived here over 20 years, and have never talked to him, as he is a bit of a miserable git, still, it wasnt right how they were working, I told him about his windows and his porch roof, and he listened and said he would have a word with them today.
I saw him out the front checking, and today they turned up to finish the job, and I could see the man pointing out this and that, they werent happy, but he made them clean all the paint of his windows and porch roof, and pick up all the fag butts:D
The point I am making here, is that those 3 men knew he was elderley, he walks with a stick, and knows damm well he cant up to clean the windows etc, and yet they just didnt care, but hopefully the next elderly person they go to, they might think twice how they leave the job.0 -
I suppose the only good side urban is it can be sorted as plastering is cosmetic, and not structral. You said on the 1st post can badly skimmed walls be skimmed, yes they can.may take abit of time to straighten them but its all fixable. If you are nervous about it all, tell the builder about the problems before and that you was ripped off,if he's a desent bloke he will understand(i would).See if you can get some references off him.And if you can dont pay till the jobs complete(i never ask for money till the jobs finished and the costumers happy).
Thanks Jason, well.......they plastered around the doorframe cos they widened the doorframe and put a new lintel in - ans its a supporting wall.
To say i'm concerned would be an understatement.
Good advice, thanks. The potential new builder has just knocked and he volunteered that he wanted no money off me until the job is completed and I am happy with it. He's worked on my neighbours (which is good) and also a local private club and has said he can provide references no problem from them and other jobs.
These all sound like he's trustworthy(-ish, think thats gonna take time).
Thanks for saying its fixable - phew! I know little and I thought i'd be stuck with some of it - or all.A Fendi Baguette is not a sandwich.....

They do take the proverbial when they see someone vulnerable. Would they treat a 6ft 2, built like a brick out house bloke the same way?? Not in a million years. Well done you :T having a chat with your neighbour, bet that put the painters noses right out of joint.
I too us a walking stick (recovering from a serious illness) and am slow and clumsy on my feet, knowing all of this pants builder still did what he did. Some must leave their conscience at the gate before starting work.
Totally agree with reporting this guy. Do I go to trading standards to do this or somewhere else???
Many thanks misgrace.
