:DI'm about to sign Tenancy Agreement later today...the bath in the house is a spa/ jacuzzi type bath with shower over bath.

I did a google on how to clean them and have given myself a major panic ( probably just me as I'm a bit OCD re health and hygiene)

Most of the google sites are from USA and one in particular mentioned that the bath should have an RCD unit linked to fuse box, now I know about RCD plugs and lawn mowers/electrics and safety etc so is there a legal requirement in UK re installation of these baths?

Previous tenant was in house for 6 years and Letting Agent seems nice but vague about certain Health&Safety things.

Also don't fancy bathing in previous tenants skin bits etc so how do you know the stuff flowing through the jets etc is clean...any hints and tips re cleaning/ disinfecting this type of bath...

I'm giving myself heebyjeebies thinking of some of the expressions used on some of the sites, crud, skin flakes, black floaters, legionella....yuck......scum build up.:eek::eek::eek:Sorry I'm dirty bath phobic, well sort of...

Also is there a legal requirement when there doing a check at begining of tenancy for them to show you the maintenance of said bath and provide a manual for it.....

Maybe I'm over sensitive..I need to get a grip :o:p:(

Hope I don't come across as some kind of nutter but for me the renting of this place is a big step in some ways as I just want to get it right first time, after things going wrong for me the last couple of years, but don't want to come across as some panicky tenant from hell...I'm lovley really...just my confidence is shot and I've been reading too many negative posts re renting so it's time to be positive so spa bath owners what's the pluses and negatives of this type of bath I know I will get straight talking on here
Less :mad::mad: at rising prices and more :D:D:D in my life and sure there will be some :eek::eek: hairy moments on my journey to get my financial life under control so hello Im Suzanne:cool::cool:

  • I would always be wary of using a jacuzzi in someone's house. I've heard that people can pick up all sorts of strange diseases fom all the muck lurking in the jets......I would actually change the bath if I could.

I seem to recall seeing one of those cleaning programmes which said use a dishwasher cleaning tablet to clean the pipes out regularly. That seems to be backed up by this

Not an option I'm afraid....it's rented property...There are some quite good tips on cleaning the bath, it's just me and the thought of a mucky bath, stagnant water etc.

Surely this type of bath goes through house sales / rentals quite a bit....just looking for some feedback

In your shoes I'd stick to only having a shower; I have no idea how to get them properly clean either.

Ask the landlord for an instruction booklet or download one from the manufacturers website and follow their cleaning instructions. You don't want to break the thing and be responsible for repairs - a jacuzzi is an appliance like any other.

Fill the tub with very hot water, pop in a dishwasher tab or washing powder tab, run for 30 minutes.

Drain, fill with fresh water and run again.
    Good, clean fun.... :D

Low foam cleaning products essential though.

Can you buy a specific one?

I don't like the idea of other people's skin porridge either. yuck.
  • I used to have a jacuzzi bath in my old house and I used 2 products to clean it every 6 months. One was a cleaner and degreaser and the other sanitiser tablets. Both can be ordered from a few websites or maybe try ebay. The cleaner and degreaser was especially good at also removing limescale that builds up in the jets.
