How to? - new standard meter

I've been with BG for 8 years and got a meter that counts day and night rates. Economy 7?

Now I'm in a process of switching to EDF (just applied on Saturday online).. How can I get my Economy 7 meter changed to standard (one rate) meter? Should I give EDF a ring tomorrow?

I don't really benefit from day and night rates.. my night usage is roughly 15%.

As long as you have researched the prices, which can tip the balance with the % issue, you only need to ensure you have no off peak load wired in your consumer unit and your supplier just needs to send out an engineer to make the change.

Some suppliers will change your tariff only but not all E7 meters are allowed to operate this way...suppliers are skirting their way around compliance...so another supplier may refuse to honour that arrangement.

Your new supplier won't be able to change the meter until the switch has pretty much gone through as they will not have an agreement with the MOP to do any work for them

Cheers. I will let them know that I want a standard meter anyway. And I will contact them again later once I'm with them once the switchover has been completed.

    Antother question...
Will the move from E7 to standard meter affect my Blue tariff fixed until May 2014? I can see the tariff applies to both E7 and standard meter customers. I would like to remain on the Blue tariff but with standard meter.

I don't think BG would do anything to my meter now when I'm leaving them ;)

Everything is new to me, it's the first time I'm switching the energy supplier :embarasse

No, they wouldn't have the timescale to book the appt or it would get cancelled by the existing MOP due to the cancellation of their contract. To be fair why would your existing supplier want to pay for your meter change if your leaving anyway.

They should automatically transfer you to the unrestricted Blue tariff when they have processed the meter exchange on their records. You shouldn't have any problem in this regard as the tariff is available to both meters.

The new supplier registering a date for the switch puts a clock on when the current supplier can do it.

The new supplier is allowed to change the meter from the switch date as Wolf says. However, suppliers often like to have the account fully set up to use transactions to send the request to their Meter Operator but they can also send it earlier as a pure data flow (so not relying on sending via your account from a user transaction, if that makes sense?) In 3 rd party systems such as Formfill or some suppliers have chosen to incorporate this facility in their new SAP systems.

It sounds like you will be OK on the package front but perhaps check your t&c's just incase. It could also go wrong where an operator chooses standard by not noticing your current package but this would be an easily corrected error.
