Hey everyone,
Could someone please tell me what they think is a better processor for a laptop. Its between:
1) Intel Pentium M 770 / 2.13 GHz
2) AMD Sempron 3500+ - 1.8GHz, 128KB L2 Cache Processor
Also the AMD has 1gb ram and the pentium only 512mb but the Pentium is £50cheaper. Its only going to be used for web browisng so doesn't need to be great but for the sake of £50 I'd rather have the 1gb ram if the processor is also better
Thanks in advance for your help :A

Processor wise alone - There's not much in it. I would look at the whole system, i.e. more memory is better, faster hard drive, on board gfx vs separate etc...0
-
Which models are being considered and at what price?0
-
Nomoney - Its only being used for Solitaire and web browsing so on board graphics and speed of hard drive doesn't really come into it as neither will really be used. It may be occassionally used to play some old network games like red alert which shouldn't stretch the graphics
Donnie - Both Hewlett Packard. The Pentium is £350 and the AMD is £400

Similar specs on Dells AMD laptops but you get a Turion (dual core ?)processor for £ 388

thanks jampton they look great value but do you know what processor speed that is??
I know Turion is better than semperon but is that like a 2ghz? 4000+ etc etc?0 -
You don't need to worry. The machine outlined by Jampton is better than the other two.0

You might want to take a look at the Medion thread in the Grabbit section.0

Forget about that baseline figure. Having a Dual Core processor will have beneficial effects on multitasking. Which is your most likely need.
An example from Wikipedia;
If an automatic virus scan initiates while a movie is being watched, the movie is far less likely to lag, as the antivirus program will be assigned to a different processor than the processor running the movie playback.0 -

If that's all you are using it for then simply go for the cheapest0
