I like to play online golf at WGT.com for some reason over the last 5 weeks my gameplay has become poor, the game is not running fluent, if you have played the game you will know what im talking about. For good game play you need a good shot meter which is part of the game play where you hit the ball similar to PS games such as Tiger Woods etc.
I have a intel pentium 4 3.06GHZ with 2GB of Ram. A GForce 6200 graphics card.
Anyway discussing the issue with others someone sugested 'overclocking' the cpu but I didnt understand what all that was about.
Can someone explain in simple terms what overclocking does.
What im looking for is for my pc to run smooth, not sure if its all to do with Flash Player but its all up to date. Ive tried Chrome Maxthon and IE and Firefox but something is not right.

All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.

There is a maximum performance/speed your CPU is specified to run at. Sometimes cpus are locked to this maximum but there are also unlocked cpus.
Think of it as maximum revs your car engine will run at when bought and how much it can be tuned to improve the engine without blowing the engine up.
Greater performance can be achieved by making the cpu run faster than specified.
This usually involves adjusting frequency and voltage settings in the BIOS. How much more performance can be achieved depends on many factors such as dissipating the additional heat and increased power consumption, along with an actual physical limit on the cpu before it becomes a brick - the latter varies on a chip-by-chip basis and is referred to as the 'silicon lottery.'
Heat dissipation has seen some very exotic air coolers, water cooling and even liquid nitrogen for people who go for overclocking world records.
You can also overclock memory and graphics cards.
Looking at the system requirements for WGT I doubt your cpu is the problem. Have you followed all the advice here?

You've not said what O/S you are running, so for ex XP with your spec should be ok, anything newer will be marginal.
Both your CPU and video card are very close to vintage components now, and I'd say bite the bullet and move on to newer hardware.
The CPU runs hot already, they were energy hogs when they came out, and any O/C will just increase the heat output.
If you can, you will get much improvement from a C2D CPU, still socket 775, although you may need to change your board. C2D's are very clockable, giving you even more options.0
