As a single parent you are entitled to housing benefit and council tax benefit.
It is well worth applying to the student support fund at uni, you never know and is worth trying.
I would say though that the social work degree includes two lots of 100 day placements and as well as those placements being full time you have essays/assignments/case studies/practice analysis etc to write up at evenings and weekends so you don't get a minute spare apart from the little time you get to sleep so if you are not well enough to work, I wonder how you will manage the full time placements and extensive work alongside? While you are in placement that is the equivalent of one and a half full time jobs. I'm sure though that you have considered this and decided you can manage it though. Good luck with it all x

  • Thanks for your reply PippaGirl. I'm aware of the placement duration and how time consuming the work will be during these times. I'm hoping that by this point, my health would have improved. I will have had access to new medication which fingers crossed, allow me to function more like a normal person.

What kind of benefits are you expecting?

I am waiting to do my SW MA - and not only do I have to self fund - I won't even get Tax Credits or any form of support or childcare help.

Basically I have had to save for this.

I am not sure what help you are thinking of.

Is it just FSM, or are you wanting to know about Housing Benefit etc.

What exactly do you get now in the forms of bursary's/loans etc?
