I had a bundle of clothing listed, bid up to around £30 inc p&p, buyer didn't pay or make contact so on day 7 I filed the old NPB dispute.
Day 11 I got fed up waiting so closed the dispute, split up the items and re-listed some of them individually - having decided it is not worth the hassle of NPB's on dearer amounts, I am going to stick to smaller more affordable items.
Today - day 13 - I see the buyer has now paid for the bundle. No message/apology for delay/nothing. So I immediately refund it. Next I receive a polite email asking "Why have I refunded the payment for the clothes?"
I replied that "I had not received payment within 7 days as stated in my auction and that no contact had been made regarding the matter", but now I have got that horrible sinking feeling that I will get a NPS strike as the buyer may have had 14 days to pay and not 7?
Have I been too hasty? Am I TSFE?!!

If the buyer didn't respond to the NPB alert and you closed it that is it. Finished.
A buyer is supposed to make payment within 7 days.
You've done the right thing by going down the NPB route.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

I think the problem is that the OP didn't wait for the dispute to close before relisting. Have you closed the dispute you opened on day 7, did they respond throught the dispute console?0

I did close the dispute before relisting, they responded through Ebay's message service not through the dispute console. I have since had another message saying "Ok, fair enough" so I guess that's it, whew! Thanks for your quick responses x0

Can you clarify please about the dispute process. usually the dispute can be opened on day 7 and not closed until 8 days later or unless the buyer responds, whichever comes first. The only way you could have closed the dispute was to have chosen not to reclaim your fees and mark the buyer as an NPB.
Personally I would be slightly wary of relisting as early as day 7, especially if I hadn't had my fees back and a relist credit. As I take cheques and bank transfers as well as paypal I tend not to even start an NPB until about day 8 or 9 to allow for slow postage, and then relist only when I close the dispute 8 days later.
The buyer could make a complaint, but to be frank it isn't worth worrying about. The thing you should be concerned about though is a negative as refusing to sell as early as day 11 might be seen as a bit hasty if anyone checks out your negs.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I just closed the dispute without claiming my FVF's as I knew I wouldn't be relisting as a bundle again, I guess I have been lucky not to get a NPS, I will learn from this incident.0

Learn what? You did the right thing as they allow you to open a NPB after 7 days.As a PowerSeller, I never leave feedback first. The reason I do this is because I know how much it winds the people on the forums up... :beer:0

I think the OP means she has learnt that in future it might be worth letting the NPB dispute run to reclaim her FVFs, rather than cancelling it before fees were repayable and gaining nothing.
