Postage query

Hi there, wonder if anyone can clirify the situation for us.
We have recieved a package at our house, through the post, for next door (we are No 12, and the package is addressed to No 10). However, next door is rented and the name on the packake is stated as the PREVIOUS tenant, who moved out about 18 months ago.
SDo, to clairify, we have a package with a postal address for next door, but a name on the package belonging to a previous tenant. We do know of the previous tenant, and sometimes still see her.
Do we save the package until we see her again, or do we have to pass the package onto the house address on the package (even though the 'person named' is not living there any more?
Regards

Most (if not all) delivery companies are only contracted to deliver to an address and not to a particular person, so in theory you should really just give the package to whoever is living at the property now and let them sort it out.
If you were to keep hold it it, it may lead to problems if the addressee claims non delivery (if it was something that they ordered and used their old address by mistake) as there will be no record of you having the package.0 -
Why not send it back as not at address.0

The neighbourly thing would be to contact the addressee and let her know you have it.
All other options are passing the buck to a greater or lesser degree.0
