Tesco - pricing questionable...again!

Went to buy carrots this morning so as usual I always have a look at the prices and do comparisons against the prepacked, value and loose.
Deciding on the everyday value pack - checked out the pricing. Label stated 92p per pack, 46p per kg. therefore presumption was there were 2kg in the bag...nope 1.5kg for 92p, the actual price per pack should have read 69p or 62p per kilo depending on the correct pricing structure - manager wasnt too happy when I pointed out this to him - 'oh well its not much difference' ...eh clearly you are not stating the price correctly - whether it is pennies or pounds your labelling is incorrect!

I'm surprised at his reacton, where I work (not Tesco) an incorrect ticket is a big deal. We refund the customer the difference if the ticket is wrong and have to turn it around and run upstairs and get an accurate one printed off right away because we're not trading legally otherwise and if we got a store inspection wrong tickets get a real bollocking.0 -
You'll probably find his 'low key' response was for you as a customer, the staff will probably feel the lash of his tongue later.....Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

I can explain this. (and no I don't work for Tesco!) They've just changed the pack size. It used to be 2kg bag for 92p but they've just made the pack size smaller to 1.5kg. Someone has obviously not changed the price ticket as the price is still the same, it's the weight that is different.
Not excusing Tesco here at all, half a kilo less for the same money is rubbish.0 -
they must have changed a fair bit then without actually changing their pricing see below other prices that are wrong and this was only a quick glance through their website - clearly trying to hoodwink those that do not have the time or ability to calculate prices:

I have seen this mis-labelling at Tesco a lot recently on pre packed fruit and veg. Saw it on strawberries, raspberries and plums to name a few.
When I pointed it out to SENIOR staff, they fobbed it off, saying all the labels are sent / produced by head office, so they have no control. I asked for a callback to get an explanation as to the misleading tickets and prices and never heard anything back.
A week later, and the same items were STILL mislabelled.
Shame on Tesco for being so misleading, and being so lax in rectifying it.0 -
Difficult to use online price listings as if you read the terms on the site, it will say 'online prices are a guide only, in-store prices may vary'. Also they have different prices depending on where you are in the country and whether it's a Tesco Extra, Express or superstore.
It could also be that your particular store has a poor 'price integrity' team, these are the staff members who are responsible for changing and updating the labels. The good thing about Tesco is that you can get your money back. If the ticket says £1 per kilo and you're charged £1.50 per kilo, under their own policy they have to give you double the difference back, take it up with customer services. They have to log every single overcharge in a book and this is then given to the price integrity team to rectify. Tesco my be a PITA to deal with but there is come back for the customer if you are overcharged.0 -

Whilst I understand what you say here, there should be no such thing as a "poor" price integrity team
I worked for a market research company 9/10 years ago, and one of our clients were Sainsbury, back when they first started losing big ground. Our job was to go into EVERY store once a month and spot check their labelling. If a store failed to reach target three months on a trot - their bonuses were stopped. I used to audit stores that when I started barely had any sels, to having 100% correct every month once bonuses were hit and disciplinary actions were taken
Sainsbury were very hot on labelling. I worked as a department manager for them many many years ago, back in the day when labels were indeed sent down from head office and I remember having to tube it up to Black-friars Bridge on many occasion to get labels we were missing0 -
Take it up with in-store customer service / management or write to head office. There isn't any more advice I can give really. There shouldn't be such thing as a 'poor' price integrity team, but the one in your store obviously is.0
