How di i stop my neighbour's cat coming in my house

Help please. Title says it all. I really like my neighbour, would never want to fall out but I really don't like his cat (or any cat). I love leaving my windows and doors open when the weather is fine but if I open them more than a cat's width then she's in!!! It's driving me round the bend. How can I kindly get rid of the thing

We had this problem (with a cat constantly coming in to try to steal our cat's food). I got an empty washing up liquid bottle and rinsed it out VERY well so there was no trace of washing up liquid left. Filled it with water and kept it handy.

Whenever I saw the cat in our garden approaching the open door, I squirted a little bit of water at it. You don't need to soak them, and actually the cat ran off so quickly I think it barely got wet at all, but it did the trick. I only had to do this two or three times and the cat now comes nowhere near our house.
  • Is it feral or do you know if she lives nearby, if she is feral then maybe try and get a cat rescue organisation to re home it?
  • No - if you like cats I would say she's a very friendly adorable creature. I just don't want her curling up in my house!! I've tried everything. I've squirted water, i've chased her out - I just don't know what else to do without being unki nd. One time I squirted water - 10 minutes later she's back and that repeated itself about 4 times until I closed the patio door.

You need to keep at it not get bored after just four attempts. It can take time to train an animal, but they learn if you are more persistent than they are. You can also buy products you 'set' that make a heck of a clattering noise when they are 'triggered' - they are designed for kitchen worktops IIRC but you might put that on a windowsill or doorway.
