British Gas price increase unavoidable

I have just spoken to British Gas customer service re: the price increase and fixed-tariffs. They have informed me that the fixed-tariff INCLUDES the 6% price rise. Are they allowed to do this? Surely fixing the price should mean fixing it as it stands NOW? Not fixing it as it will stand in 1 months time?

Will be looking for a new energy supplier I think...

Comments

  • There are still energy suppliers offering fixed tariffs at good prices. But they will increase their prices very soon. So don't waste your time.
  • They can fix the unit prices at any price they want. As long as the terms and conditions explain that to the customer the exact price and clearly the day they are effective from then it up to the customer if he/she wants to sign up. You cant force them to fix it at todays rates. Just like SSE whos 2 year capped plan 2 was launched a few weeks ago based on their prices as at the 15th oct 12 (the announced date of their price increases)
