Barclaycard Phone Phishing?

An mobile number keeps calling my g/f mobile claiming to be from Barclaycard. I told them it was an inconvenient time (8pm) and asked if they had a number i could call back on but was told they do not accept incoming calls.
I asked what it was about and the guy just said "a special offer".
Anyone else had this call? I get so suspicious these days!!

could be perfectly genuine however my advice to my customer when they receive calls of this nature is you can never be sure that this person is calling from where they say so ask them for a phone number that you can call them back on to verify.
on that basis i would say ignore it or ask them to stop calling you

But unless you then check with Barclaycard direct that it is a genuine number how do you know it is not just a private number.0 -
Sounds like it is Barclaycard. They are seriously testing my patience with their endless telesales.
Every day I would come home from work and dial 1471 on the home phone. I would get a really bizarre number that had called during the day (not a usual landline number and not a mobile number - and when i tried to return the call, it said 'not a valid number'). This literally happened every day and it was really annoying because I didn't know who it was, and why they were calling every day.
Then one Saturday morning the phone rang and it was Barclaycard trying to sell me some insurance (sounded like he was phoning from abroad). After the call I dialled 1471 and it was the same number as before. I was so annoyed that it was Barclaycard that had been phoning everyday, and just to sell me something.
More recently when I had to phone up and activate my new card, they again tried to sell me stuff. I'm gonna ask to be taken off their telesales list.0 -
thanks for the info.
maybe i'll just pee the salesman off by saying "with the prevalence of phone phishing scams I refuse to talk to any Barclaycard representatives without calling through on 01604 230 230"
then I'll get to listen to him effectively say "oh go on, I am barclaycard, pleeeaaassseeee!!!"
and i'll refuse to speak any moreErr, I'll get back to you about the funny signature0 -
Yep, we had the same problem very recently, and posted on here about it. My partner kept getting calls, but when he answered they hung up. After a few weeks, the frequency increased, until he was getting about 10 or 12 calls a day - and at one point had about 5 calls in 1.5 hrs!
Wrote to Barclaycard to complain but just got a really standard letter back. Said we were so fed up we wanted to close the account (didn't use it anyway) and they just closed it without trying to keep us, so they didn't seem to think it was a big deal :mad:0
