kitchen colour

I am having trouble deciding what colour to paint my kitchen/dining room.
I have just had the wall knocked down between the kitchen and the dining room and need to paint them now. The room is quite light with a big bay window and another big window. The kitchen will have medium oak doors and a steel grey granite counter top. The floor will have dark travertine, sort of a browny colour. The table will be a dark wood as well.
I find magnolia / white boring so it won't be that. I have thought of pastel blue, pastel lilac or pastel green. But still not sure. I am not very good at colour design...
Any thoughts?

Yellows and golds work well with dark colours or even go dark with a purple or aubergine colour

The walls in my kitchen are a pale peach, but after about 6yrs i'm decorating. I got 'toasted almond' last week and the obligatory brilliant white for the ceiling.

i've just knocked through a wall and redesigned kitchen so it's a kitchen diner.
as it's a dark room i went for light colours, crown Apple Mist mostly mixed with crown Mellow Sage for an accent. the Apple Mist is lovely and light but without being boring

I have just had my kitchen done. The units are oak, tiles terracotta, pale green and sand and my feature wall is Dulux Overtly Olive. Goes/blends very well0
