Help needed to write a speech please

My 8 year old daughter has been chosen to be the village May Queen. One of her duties on the day will be to give a speech (supposedly written by herself) and to declare the May Fayre "open". I don't have a clue what should be in the speech. Can anyone help please?
We did try a Google search for some ideas but most of the seach results were about Brain May, the Queen guitarist!

Good morning / afternoon
I am pleased to welcome all of you to the May Fayre. It’s wonderful to see all the flowers beginning to bloom and to feel the warm sun again. Everything is so beautiful and green and its lovely to see the new animals. I hope everyone has a good time and I now declare the fayre open.
Hope that gives you a starting point!0 -
Maybe she should also add something about thanking the organisers/any sponsors etc? Something along the lines of 'I'd really like to thank all of the people who put so much time and effort into organising this event, especially X, Y and Z,' (if there is anyone particular who needs thanking
) 0 -
Can't believe they expect an 8 year old to give a speech!
Best of luck xGone ... or have I?0 -
As well as what's in the speech, give her my mum's advice.
"Remember the deaf old lady at the back!"
this doesn't mean shouting, which distorts your voice, it means projecting - looking at the people at the back, not the front, and heading your voice over to them.
If she has a microphone (which I expect she would), try to get her a practice beforehand: sometimes you have to practically kiss it for it to pick up your voice, and it feels really strange to have to have it right in front of your mouth.
Wherever the mic is, opening her mouth and enunciating clearly is also helpful to the deaf old lady at the back!
Good luck to her!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I think she should go for something more informal and short as she is only 8.
Perhaps along the lines of:
Hello, my name is xxxxxxxxxxx and I am delighted to be this year's village May Queen.
I googled the term May Queen and came up with ......put some amusing fact here .............................
Anyway my duty as your village May Queen is to welcome you all to the fayre and I now declare the Village Fayre officially open.

Bless her
I think as she is only 8 keep it very simple and in words she would use, she could even say "this is my first ever speach".
Tell her to find a kindly smiling face in the crowd ( probably yours) to smile and enjoy it. I think it would probably be better for her to write a little piece in her own words then try to remember it. She may feel muchg more comfortable with this.
Good luck

Thank you all for your advice. I am really nervous for her but she is excited and looking forward to it. She is driving me nuts "declaring things open". Tonight she went to get milk out of the fridge and said in a big loud voice, "I declare this fridge open!":rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
She has also "opened" the front door, the car, a packet of crisps, the toothpaste, her wardrobe and a book since she got up this morning.:DFool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times and I'll smash your face in.

Maybe she could make reference to the fact that she now officially opens things. She could offer her services at the opening of an envelope for example.
Ask her what she wants to say and then try and build on thatWe all evolve - get on with it0
