Desktop - Everything is huge, please help!

Hello!

My computer did some kind of update this morning. Now my desk top icons and everything is MASSIVE!

I have tried the obvious checking font size and zoom etc...but it doesn't appear to be that.

Can anybody please tell me how to restore my computer to how it was before this update?

Thanks so much

It sounds like your screen resolution has changed. You need to right click on the desktop background and either click on "Properties" or "Screen Resolution", depending on which version of Windows (I assume) that your using, then you can try different resolution values until you get it back to how it was.

Hold down 'ctrl' on your keyboard and roll your mouse until the screen content is the right size

    System Restore?

OK so that does work in a trial-and-error sort of way, but why would you suggest that rather than using the + and - keys?

If it's a zooming issue, CTRL 0 resets to 'normal' size
How do I add a signature?

That is a pretty odd thing to have happened...When you say update, do you mean a standard Windows one? As I'm paranoid about sudden changes on my computer I'd have a peek at what it installed by launching Windows Update and then you can click on View Update History to see the changes. Sorry if you already know about this..!

I'd second it and say it definately sound like your display resolution has lowered..very odd.

edit - Didn't realise you could zoom the desktop icons so it could be the zoom..! On a side note, Ctrl and mouse wheel zooms but doesn't work using the +/- keys on either the main keyboard or the numeric block...
  • Try increasing your desktop resolution. Start at the largest your monitor supports then work downwards.

Whilst it could be zoom, it seems unlikely. Resolutions often get changed as part of installs (especially changes to graphics drivers), and if it's not just the icons that are large but the taskbar and menus, then changing the zoom level won't have an effect.

Sounds like MS has updated your display drivers. Nothing untoward there.

Do what zappahey says at #2.

    Hope that helps.
