confusion over garmin sat nav

Spent hours yesterday looking at Sat Nav - had Tom Tom before and found go live 1000 Tesco £130 which seems a good deal - but I begrudge paying £45 year live traffic.

Garmin offering free map updates and live traffic free lifetime on some models.
This is were the fun starts - cant really make out what the free live traffic is there seems to be different things for different models.

Rang Halfords they were confused themselves and said they had not seen this package before. Tat there are different types of "live traffic"
Model 2495LMT
*Nuvi link - this seems to go through phone
*Its not live time ( so is it free live traffic or not ?)
Then they said oh it comes with an accessory in the box so it goes through that.

Then Halfords said when it goes through the accessory its free anyway.
Then I saw another garmin were you paid £45 a year sub for live traffic is this different or the same as the free offer ?

More confused than ever

What I want is a sat nav
Bluetooth hands free
Free map updates
Free live traffic
prefer through phone and not accessory

( my first tom tom had accessory and i never used it too fiddly I think its going backwards to have a seperate attachment - I am not an expert thats just my thinking ) .

Any help please - any one got a garmin even if they could tell me what model and what u get /how it works.
Many thanks:beer:

Much appreciate any help - desperate for new sat nav last one broke just outside 12 months - good job i had not updated maps or paid for 12 month live renewal.

Garmin's free 3D traffic system comes over the radio network. The power cable that plugs into the car power socket is needed for it to work as it contains the aerial. This system is like the trafficmaster system. Updates may be slow to appear. Not all roads are covered.

Garmin's devices with live services use the mobile phone networks like TomToms live traffic but you have to pay. The 2495 cannot use this system.

The nuLINK Live range come with a years free subscription to this service though.

See the Garmin website for more details.
  • The only thing I would keep in mind, is what data allowance do you have on your phone? I'm unsure how much data live traffic would use, but it's something worth checking out.
