Pre payment Annual bill.

Hello

I have had a look at my Annual bill for electricty I am on pre pay. I might be being stupid but the amount of payments I have made is alot more than the electricity I have used. The dates match and it is saying I have made £850 pounds of payments but they amount of electricty I have used is only £450 worth.
I cant ring EDF they are closed today ( on a Sunday ) Something seems very strange.
Any Pre pay advise,

If you have paid all that over, ask for a cheque rebate.

  • You will be paying for standing charge per week at the same time as topping up. BG meters are set for up to £1.85 a week at the moment, also you may have been paying off debt, viewable on screen "S". Some meters are capable of paying the standing charges built into the units, such as Actaris meters. Total standing charge for a year is approx £95 a year, so you still have a large difference to be explained, have you been paying a debt off ?

I am with Southern Electric on payment meters and am not liable for a standing charge, they said all the extra charges were scrapped a while ago. When i have found any difference in billed amount to used amounts they have looked it up on the systems and sent cheques out to cover the difference, retaining a percentage incase of any adjustments to go on to the account.

I would also check that the codes on your letter corrsepond with the ones from your meter. After having a new meter fitted because old one developed a fault their systems had not been updated to show the change over.

  • Hi stef240377, we all pay standing charges ,prepay and credit. The suppliers may dress it up a bit and give it different names ( eg BG s clear and simple tariffs ) on prepays you can check screen "F" . if it shows 0000 the standing charges will be viewable on screens "I" ( tier one ) and "K" (tier two ) where you will be paying the standing charge with the high kwhr rate of approx 24 p a unit in the tier one screen

So your meter is not aligned with the correct charges. Until they recalibrate your meter, they ate earning interest on your over payments.

If its the volume of kwh, they must be using estimates instead of readings off your key.
