Problems accessing some websites

I have a Sony laptop, running Windows 7, Internet Explorer 9.
Using Windows Essentials security anti-virus, ran a scan yesterday which picked up a Java threat, software stated cleared up successfully.
Since yesterday I have been having difficulty accessing sites such as, for example, Currys, Dixons, In Style - sites which seem to use Flash. The laptop fan (or processor) seems to increase in speed, pages refuse to load, and message appears 'attempting to recover'.
Not sure whether this means the virus hasn't been cleared, something to do with settings, or what is causing the problem.
Would be grateful if anyone has any ideas please?
Going offline shortly but back later, thanks for any help.

I had a similar problem and a reset of the Hub/Modem solved the problem, worth a try.0

The purpose of a "Java threat" is to exploit vulnerabilities in the Java Runtime Environment to facilitate the download/installation/execution of other malware.
http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/Threat/Encyclopedia/Search.aspx?query=Exploit:Java
Any threat can be mitigated depending on the version of java you have installed - If it's up to date and you have older versions removed then any threat from a Java exploit is lowered - perhaps even nullified completely - It has to be able to exploit the version of java you have installed to work successfully.
Run a quick scan with malwarebytes free.

If no other malware is detected then you're probably ok - the problem you are having may just be coincidental.
Try a browser other than IE to see if you have the same problem accessing the sites.0 -
Solved my earlier problem "xyz.co.uk is not loading" using Internet Explorer fixes from Microsoft. Seems to be a similar problem to this.Nice to save.0

Thanks everyone for your advice and suggestions.
Tried re-setting the router, unfortunately problem still persists. Just tried running a quick scan from Malwarebutes, and no malicious threats detected.

Will try TheBiff's suggestion regarding Microsoft Fix.
Haven't used other browsers apart from Internet Explorer, the sites seem accessible on my OH's PC, who is also using IE9.
Any other advice gratefully received, it's driving me nuts, wondering whether to do a reinstallation as a last resort.
Any other ideas please?0 -

Thanks for further advice.
Have disabled Add-ons, and installed the latest Flash player.
Sites seem to be running marginally faster, will see how it goes throughout the day.
Much appreciated.0 -
I had very similar problems and it turned out I had a virus which very nearly got into my bank account.
Try this - http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407
Follow each step and any virus you have will be found - upload the 4 required logs onto the website and one of the experts will sort everything out for you free of charge.
Ignore the date of that first post, IT DOES ALL WORK !!
Just follow the steps one-by-one.0 -
Thanks for information.
Along with Windows Essentials, am also running Rapport.
Between these two pieces of software, hoping my bank accounts are as safe as Fort Knox!
Thank you0 -
Judging by post #8, updating flash seemed to resolve it as they intimated it seemed to be flash based sites where the problem was - but - should the OP wish, I could do a comprehensive check for malware right here.0
