Capital One Credit Limit

I had pervious bad credit and after totally clearing any outstanding debts, with no CCJs but defaults i got a Capital One credit card to help repair my rating.

My original credit limit was £200, its not been 7 months ive spent on the card each month and paid back in full each month. But my limit is still only £200.

Im not actually looking more credit but as im trying to improve my credit rating it would be great to see some kind of improvement.

Anyone got any ideas what i could be doing?

Anyone else had the same issue?

Ive read that Capital One review each account separately, do you think i could be missed out accidentally?

They very rarely give increases. I got one of couple of years ago with a £200 limit and they did increase it to £500 but have had nothing since then.

I agree with smj43 capital one are one of the hardest to get any type of increase especially for there credit builder range of cards. But like anything there will always be people that do get them and people that dont. But if you read most searches on this topic you will see the majority get very little or no limit increases with cap one.

I have / had no naughties and part from the initial limit, was unable to get any increases hence they were binned
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

I have a classic, which I have had for two years. I started at £200, it was increased to £400, and then £1000.

Have had a Progress for a year, limit is £200, and have had no increase.
  • My capital one classic started with £500 limit which was increased to £800 on the 5th statement, the first few months I spent up to the limit and the last few have spent approx 25% of limit, paid off in full each month
    DFBXmas 2015 £1933 / £2733

    Barclaycard £800 - Luma £0 - Next £0

One of my friends was offered an increase a while back but he refused it. I've only been with them for about 2 months, so not hoping on getting any thing from them

I had a Classic, started at £200, eight months later increased to £600. Then four years later it increased to £1,600 (I'd forgotted about it, the letter notifying my of the increase prompted me to close it!).

I also had a Progress, started on £1,500, increased to £2,000 at month four. Closed this after opening an Aspire World card, starting limit £3,000, only had that one for a few months, so we'll see what happens there.

Can I ask why you didn't accept the limit, but just closed the accout? I can see why you would have if you opened the Aspire World account, but not sure why you'd have closed the other cards, just because they gave you a higher limit?

    Changed days, indeed.

When I used Cap1 around 12 years ago to restart my credit, I got a £200 limit. Within a couple of years my limit went up to £4000.

I didn't mess up again and closed the account a bit later. Happy days :)

The Classic I'd already stopped using long before the increase, the Progress I didn't close due to that, the increase was over two years ago, I closed it recently as I'd just got the Aspire World.

All my increases have been automatic, as in there was no choice to decline them before they were implemented, they were before the "30 day" rule, I.e. they increased the limits then told you about it, rather than the other way round.
