Hunter style wellies without the high £ tag?

I love the hunter wellies style but I just don't like the price tag.
Has anyone seen any similar styles on the high street that are quite a bit cheaper?
I have some wellies but they are very wide and gape around the calf. They look like proper old fashioned gardening wellies!
I don't have the slimmest calves (i have to have wide leg in knee length boots) yet all the ones I've seen are still big/gaping.
I just want some nice plain slim fitting wellies (no wacky designs)
Thanks

I got my Hunters in TK Maxx for £25. Still a lot for wellies but I can walk miles in them with the dog and all day at work if it's raining. Might be worth a look if you have a local shop.0

I got mine at a Specialist Fishing Shop on the High Street. In the Department Store £85 in this Shop £72.
I would try Wellie Warehouse as they are an Official Supplier of Hunters.
Calves wise I have the same problem. I tried on a cheap pair of Dunlops. ( I used The Guardian Article on Wellies to help guide my decision) but calves wouldn't fit (£15). Went for the first time EVER into the Fishing Shop, saw the Hunters and Le Charmeau (£300 what the Duchess of Cambridge wears and Toff Class) asked to try them on, tried them on but couldn't resist and ended up buying them on the spot meaning Frugal Moi rest of the 2 weeks.
Well worth it. I think I ought to reference the article for your guidance.http://www.guardian.co.uk/fashion/shortcuts/2012/jun/18/know-your-welly-tribes#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.

Don't be discouraged the Article references both cheap and expensive Wellies, there looks like good things at both ends of the spectrum provided they are 1) rubber 2) made all of a piece.
I got cheap wellie socks one size fits all from Tesco recently @ £4#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.

Dont' worry too much it is about the semiotics of wellie boots as there is good advice is there and it is ok to want to look like a trendy Barbour clad Hunter wellied Country Girl/or Lad. Whatever floats your boat.#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.

I've had a couple of pairs of Hunters split on me recently (they do get hammered, but previously seemed to live much longer). I adore my Le Chameau, but would never, ever have spent that much on wellies myself (they were a gift). I just need them to last forever, so I never need to replace them
For longevity, Mum has a pair of Dunlops that are almost 20 years old and have been completely hammered (mostly mucking out horses, but also for farm work) and are still going strong0 -

I believe that all but the most expensive Hunters are now made in China. Pity, I bought a pair of basic Hunters in 1981 that were replaced in 1999 with some Royal Hunters that are still going strong. I will probably have to buy French when they wear out.0 -
According to the Wellie Tribes Article Hunters qaulity has gone down.
Still I will enjoy my boots until they give up the ghost and then try a make made in UK, all rubber, handmade etc for longevity.
Good to hear about your Mother's Dunlops they sound good! I tried a pair but they wouldn't fit my calves hence the Hunters!
@Millie2008 Lucky you! Evidently Le Chameau has been brought out by a Private Equity Firm so the Duchess Effect is alive and well.
I could swear that the Grand Design's Bloke has a pair? They sound lovely!
Good thing there are other makes besides Hunter that are reputable be they cheap or expensive. If they meet the good wellie criteria IMHO...#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.

Hunter should get Production back to UK that way they get jobs and get the quality back. China isn't always a good move as China has a reputation for very bad production values as a result of Mao's Famine (book) and other woes.#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.
