Have you checked your on the best tarrif for electric and gas?
Can you downsize your sky/mobile phone?
Could you move closer to work which could cut down your petrol bill? Or get a travel pass and get to work that way.

Check online - sainsburys, post office, tesco, asda, argos and many other places are currently recruiting. Theres loads of care agencies and many are looking for people as theres not enough people wanting to do the work.
    :T:T :beer: :beer::beer::beer: to the lil one :) :beer::beer::beer:
  • Sky already cancelled down. Phones won't budge as they're saying I'm on a contract. 29k for me actually works out £442 a week. Would be nice if it was £500 a week then I wouldn't have a problem!
Will get him to look at HMRC as always assumed he needs a degree for them. Can't move house until August as we are tied into a rental contract with letting agents. Does he need experience to do care work as the ones we have seen seem to want previous experience which he doesn't have :-( What's frustrating is why he can't get any work at all. Very annoying as he's not lazy and then you seem trumped up little 17 year olds looking down their noses at him when he walks in asking to speak to a manager because he's after a few hours a week. He's applied to Asda and Lidl as they are the only ones recruiting around here, all the others have got no vacancies in the area which is a pig. Applied for M&S, 15 hours a week - he called up to find out why he hadn't heard, there were 277 applicants for 8 positions. GARGH. It's crap out there. I'm trying to pull in private tuition work and I've got two lined up but it's not regular.
Bankrupt June 15th 2009. Early discharge granted March 4th 2010. Nose completely clean ever since. Got a barclays and co op basic account with debit card, own mobile contract, own gas and electric, own landline, own vanquis credit card which is paid off in full each month. Credit files cleaned up and all say satisfied.

Most of the civil service jobs you don't need any qualifications for just need to be able to meet the compotencies, get him to check out the civil service job site there are loads available at the moment. There are a lot of care orginisation that you wont need experience for and will train people to get their nvq's so its worth checking whats avail in your local area. good luck and I hope things get better for you I know its hard out there at the moment.
  • thanks csmw, I really appreciate some advice on this one. It's just really upsetting, it almost seems like you are better off in this country if I worked less, but I am not that way inclined. Actually if I'm really peed off it's the fact that rents are so ridiculously high.

Just got to hope something comes up soon for him, as it's not just financial but his morale is rock bottom :-(

Just as well you can't get a mortgage or you'd probably be looking at bankruptcy for a second time.
  • You judgemental fool. So you know me then, you know the reasons I had to go bankrupt? No, you don't, so don't you DARE make such an assumption. So much for a supportive forum, if it's full of idiots like you who make a judgement before knowing a situation then I'd rather jump off a cliff than listen to people like you.

Since it seems that you have done everything you can to cut down on expenditure (do think about posting your SOA on the Debtfree Wannabe board - not just for those who are debt- or at least have a thorough read- they are so good at reducing expenditure - just one from me, could you car share to save on petrol?) then the only thing to do is to up your income.

So, short of your OH getting a job (must be such a thankless task) what about you doing some private tutoring?

As an ex teacher I know this would be very tiring but hopefully it would just be a temporary arrangement. It could bring in the extra amount that you need each week to manage until your OH finds a job.

You don't say whether you are primary or secondary - you could ask around/put in a private advert in your local paper/join an agency.

Hope things work out for you soon and if you do take up private tutoring then make sure your OH pampers you while you are taking on the extra work (I'm thinking no housework/cooking etc for you!)
  • I am doing private tuition for two people, but I'm having trouble pulling people in. We are considering going down to one car-my husband drops me to work and then he has my car for the day to job hunt and then he picks me up. It will not help with petrol but it would cut his insurance. His car is a scrap value car to be honest.
I have found him 13 jobs to apply for this morning, I still believe he can get something but as you say it's so thankless. He is re doing his adult literacy course because he was a Sally at school and was more interested in girls and football than his exams. He passed his numeracy last year so I'm hoping that will open up doors. He is also taking an MCSE it course so he is being far from last and doing what he can to i prove his prospects. Just hope he can get any kind of paid work soon so he can get off Jsa.
Thank you for being supportive and not making a judgement!

It is quite clear that if you had a mortgage you'd not be able to pay it as you are struggling on one wage. I made no judgement on why you went bankrupt the first time. I am sure it was totally not your fault

OP, please do not rise to judgemental posts like this.

Just press the Ignore button or report them.

They have obviously forgotten the 'we are not here to judge' philosophy of this forum. :)
