Student and Benefits

Hi!

i am a full time student in the UK (2nd year). I have been working here for nearly 3 years now, but at the moment i work less than 20 hours a week and my household income (my parents) is very low. Can i get some benefits or any help??? apparently, i cant get student maitenance loan or grant as i havent lived here for 3 year prior my course start, i also didnt get anything as a migrant worker even if i have been and still continue to work here. i cant get any scholarship. i wont be able to pay my rent soon! anyone know anything what can i do in this situation or where can i go to seek an advice???

Hi, your question is complicated and more information would be needed:
    - Which country have you migrated from?
    - Do you live with your parents?
    - If yes, are you lliable for the rent (on the tenancy agreement)?
    - If no, then their income is not taken into account/not relevant in respect of your entitlements unless they are sponsoring your stay in the UK (and you are a non-EU national)
    - what sort or education are you completing? Full-time? Part-time? Advanced (degree)? or non-advanced?
    - How old are you?
    - How much do you earn?

Sorry lots of questions but your nationality, student status and parents and rent all complicate things :)

As you say, you aren't eligible for a maintenance grant or loan and, unless you are disabled or a lone parent, you can't claim any benefits.

How did you get by last year?

As a single non- disabled full time student you won't be eligible for benefits.

You might fall under the EEA migrant worker rules to get a student loan- see category 5 here:

Call this helpline for more info or see your uni/ student union advisers

    The UKCISA advice line
Our advice line is open from Monday to Friday, 1300 - 1600 hours (UK time). We answer about 10,000 calls annually, so our telephone advice line is very busy. This is why we ask you to try to find the information on our website first, or contact an adviser in your college or university. If you do have difficulty getting through to our advice line, please keep trying, and you should get through eventually.

    Outside the UK: +44 20 3131 3576
    Inside the UK: 020 3131 3576

Please note that we only give advice by telephone. We do not offer personal appointments or advice by email.
