Decoupage with paper, cover with wrapping paper, cover with fabric...
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

thanks both! ooh yes i do have some stick on jewels!! might even be pink. i will maybe do that and decoupage! never tried to do it but will have a bit of a google
  • Decoupage is amazing! My sister does it and it makes things look so effective.
Other than that, give it a shabby chic look by painting it white and scraping it down, for the worn look.

You could also get some spray paint of silver (glass) and a clear varnish and coat it in that - that could be quite cool...

the more I look into the decoupage the more I like it. She loves dora the explorer so may buy on of the dora comics and use that once i have painted. Then maybe some stick on jewels
  • I did one with decoupage and it turned out really nice...it can be a bit of a project and take some time depending on what you want to put on it but for me it was great fun and looked brilliant when finished. It's also quite cheap to do :)

My daughter loves anything Japanese (I often wonder if she had a past life in Japan, lol).

Anyway, I have one of those wooden Ikea box sets that's never been out of the packet yet and I think I'll give this decoupage thing a go. I can put lots of manga pics on it and Japanese writing (she'll be none the wiser what it says so I'll probably just make it up :rotfl:).

I need to query though, does it have to be a particular varnish that's used? I have loads of odd tins of clear varnish left over from house jobs. Can I use this or does it have to be something else?

Whatever is used, how many coats is best to give it?

You can use whatever you want to go over the top really (just test it on a bit of what you've put on the item to make sure it doesn't cause the colours to run or cause other damage). The way I was shown to do it was just to go over the top with the glue that use to stick things down...it dries clear and looks a bit like varnish but isn't. You can buy big tubs of PVA quite cheap and it'll do the trick.
