Can't connect to Xbox internet - MTU error?

I've just moved house, and have a new Netgear router controlling the internet. Its in the living room master phone socket.
My son has an xbox in his bedroom at the top of the stairs, and wants to go on his xbox live.
I have used the same set-up as in our 'old' house where i'm using Homeplugs to connect.
When I test the connection on the xbox the 'network' bit is ok, but the 'internet' test fails, and on the next part it says something about an MTU error. I can't try using an ethernet cable as I don't have one long enough.
I'm not too techy when it comes to xbox.. can anyone help?

I've tried all the 'fixes' on there, and an Xbox agent just told me to contact netgear (make of my router)..
Just looked on the Netgear site, and it says with routers models ending in SP, they are exclusive to service providers, and I have to contact them. Going round in circles here.I Hate Jobsworths!!!0 -
After Virgin media saying I had to pay for one of their team to fix this, I turned to youtube and found a fix on there.
Thanks for everyones help. :rotfl:I Hate Jobsworths!!!0
