Angry at British gas

I moved into my 1st house last Oct and from this date til Feb british gas still had the bill addressed to the 'occupier' and would not take payments from me for my bills. I got so fed up with them i switched supplier.
Now just before Easter the bill appears in our names (Oct - April) it's taken them to put the account in our name and now they have corrected the mistake they want the money now.
I phoned up to explain the situation and that both gas/elec would be paid in full at the end of May. I was told thats to far away and if we waited until then a debt collection agency would be around. I was furious.
No matter how many times i explained i dont have the money now, but will at the end of May (20th) they wouldn't accept it. Only way to pay is in 3 mth installments.
So they'd rather wait 3 mths until its all paid for and receive a tiny amount each mth, than wait until May 20th to receive the whole lot

I know how you feel. We moved last Sept and just this morning got another bill addressed to the occupier. They were investigating the problem in setting up the account back in Feb
. At least the bill this time isn't estimated because we are trying to change supplier and they read the meter.
I'm on hold to the complaints dept as I type.0 -
I would normally say, 'glad im not the only one' but really i dont want other people to be treated like i have. Feel i may be typing a letter of complaint some time today.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160

Well just spoke to the complaints dept and apparently a bill has been sent on the 4th in the correct name. If it doesn't arrive I think I'll be joining you with the letter writing0

Whilst I appreciate your anger at the account not being set up properly, surely you must have anticipated getting a bill at some stage? I'm can't understand why you didn't put some money to one side?0

Hi
Without knowing the full facts i cant give you a full answer however, you cant leave the bill payment that long...ask to set up a 3 monthly scheme with the debt department, they will be happy to do that for you..however, be warned you will get new bills from your new supplier in the mean time..Hey folks...remember I might work for the company but I am a human and working in my own time, I will not responde to people who are rude, sarcy and crits me. My views and comments do not reflect British Gas and they are totally unreasponsable for my responses.0 -
They have no guarantee your going to pay that - It might sound harsh - But imagine how many people they get tell them that everyday - I will pay my bill and then not bother. So they would rather get a small payment then no payment.0
