How can I find out if my PC has one of these installed?

DirectX 9 graphics processor with WDDM driver

If you have a picture on the monitor, it has a graphics card although it may be integrated into the mainboard.

Click on Start and then type in dxdiag into the run bar. That will fire up DirectX diagnostics which will tell you all you need to know.

It says this, whatever it means.

Under the System Tab:
DirectX Version: DirectX 11

Under the Display Tab:
Device- NIVIDIA GeForce 8400

Driver Model: WDDM 1.1


I ask because the minimum requirements to run Windows 8 is that the PC has 'DirectX 9 graphics processor with WDDM driver' installed.

From the details above is appears it does but being pretty computer ignorant so I'm not sure if my PC will be up to running on Windows 8.

As you've correctly deduced, it does meet the requirements and it is. Its nothing more complicated than that.
