Warning - Diamond Manufacturers

The companies I'm looking at charge between £5k and £6.5k for a 1ct stone.
I don't mind if it's yellow, green or red. Both companies say they use your own ashes and they only need 100 grams which is only a small amount of the total weight of a cremated body.
I will be scattering most of his ashes in the land of his birth (which is a long way away) so having a small part of him to keep with me sounds like a nice idea.
A glass ornament or piece of jewellery isn't my kind of thing, really and we only have one son who I can't see wearing a piece of glass or even a diamond so it's all just for me.
The cost of making a diamond from his ashes actually compares fairly favourably with buying a diamond from a jeweller.
In any case, the cost isn't a consideration."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -

WARNING - DON'T BUY A DIAMOND FROM VASHI
I had an almost identical and very upsetting experience as a customer of Vashi, 2 years ago I bought my wife a ring at a cost of £6,149. After just a few weeks the ring lost it's sparkle completely and looked as if it was made of glass. I spoke to Vashi to say I was unhappy with the quality of this diamond and they offered to upgrade it. We went to Vashi's offices to buy a nicer diamond, but when I researched their prices they were more than 25% higher than those of their competitors for a diamond that was exactly the same weight, size, shape and clarity. I asked them how they could justify theses prices, they didn't answer. I then went to one of their competitors to buy the same stone for a much better price; when I asked them what price they would give me for my existing Vashi diamond they said they wouldn't even buy it because the stone is tarnished and flawed with marks that are visible to the naked eye - that's obviously why it doesn't sparkle. Furthermore, three different diamond experts not only agreed with this they all confirmed that my diamond was not a H at all, it was a J.
When buying this diamond I was reassured by Vashi's comments that it came with a diamond certificate and would not only hold it's price, it would increase in value. Only after I bought the diamond did I realise that the certificate is not GIA, it's Vashi's own certificate that is absolutely worthless. It says on my certificate that my diamond is worth £25,000 which is laughable and also incredibly offensive since it is not even worth £3,000. I have called Vashi about this several times and they just say "No, it's worth what you paid for it." I asked them in that case to take it back and refund my money which they have refused to do. They won't even return my calls.
If you're thinking of buying from Vashi, I'd advise you not to as they don't care and you don't get what you think you're paying for, the diamonds are not the grade or quality they say they are, and once they have your money they are not interested.0 -
BoPsie's entanglement ring cost around £75 from Ratners in 1986, it is still as good as new.
BoPsie is also as good as new, though more refined at the edges.0 -
If you're buying a diamond, it's common sense not only to have a "proper" certification of the stone, but to have it independently valued upon receipt to ensure the diamond you paid for is the one they have sent you.
If you don't do that, you deserve all you get IMO.0
