Tap washer leaking...

Hello folks I would appreciate and comments that you may have..
In one of our bedrooms we have a en-suite bathroom albeitquite small it is useful for ourdaughter when she visits us. Recently I noticed the basin mixer tap wasdripping, thinking that this would be the usual tap washer replacement. Ipurchased a washer pack from our local 'plumbing supplies' of what I thoughtwas the correct size of washer, 3/8"
When I removed thetap assembly I found a strange looking washer which I now know as being part ofa ceramic disk assembly, returning with the assembly I was told by our'plumbing supplies' assistant that seeing that it was fitted with a ceramic washer, I would have topurchase a replacement assembly after firstly finding out the makers name ofthe tap, in order to be able to fit the correct replacement, and finally she said that seeing that the washer pack onlycost 96p she would have to charge me to return it to her stock.
There is no name anywhere to be found to determine themakers name
This all sounds a bit over the top to me to have to repairby replacement.
kind regards
Bob

You could try removing the ceramic disk assembly and strip it (carefully noting the orientation of the components) clean and re-fit. Had to do that about a year ago, been fine since.
Some info and videos Google

Hi
The downside to ceramic disc technology.
You need a new cartridge, unless you know the make you can't replace it.
See if it is any of these here.
GSRAsk to see CIPHE (Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering)0 -
Odd inserts I usually take into our local plumbers merchants and check for one with the same splines on the top. Having said that, its normally one size fits most, so it's not usually difficult. Less than a tenner for the insert.0

Many thanks to you all for your comments...
Further to my first comment the assistant checked if their replacements fitted by removing the cap on the splines and then said that theirs would not fit and it was then that she said that I would have to find out the makers name to get the correct part.
I counted the splines and find that there are 24
I will try your suggestions first many thanks

Yes - and some places only sell them in pairs !0 -
Its not just the number its the diameter too. You don't need to find out the manufacturer. You need to take the actual bit you turn with you for that is what will determine the matched fit. They will all match the tap body.I counted the splines and find that there are 24

Cheers
I did take the screw assembly, as I said, to our local 'Plumbing Supplies' and they could not match either the washer or the full assembly.
