British Gas Fix and Fall November 2013
Hi - I have just received a letter from British Gas informing me of their price increase. However they have given me an option to sign up for their "fix and fall November 2013" which fixes the prices at their new standard rates until Nov 2013, but if the rates fall then my prices will fall too.
Can someone please let me know if this would be a good option to go for?
Thanks

I received the same letter today. It's only 1 year fix.. I don't find it particularly attractive to be honest.0

British Gas puts up the price, and then have the cheek to offer us, a fix or fall for a year.
We shouldn't offered a deal , should be given to all, customers as a matter of course.
The downside of not signing up is if prices go up
Still not right.0 -
Exactly. So I have fixed it today. But not with them

So what's the catch with fix & fall? Is it that it locks you into one supplier for a year?0
-
That it indicates that the supplier thinks that prices are not going to fall?No free lunch, and no free laptop

Has anyone actually managed to switch to fix and fall?
I tried on the website and couldn't work it out, they gave me an option to select EnergySmart or something, when I did that from the fix and fall 2013 option, fix and fall didn't appear in the tarrif list they presented for energy smart (there was clear and simple and standard variable online)!
Also, when selecting fix and fall 2013 without energysmart they were asking for my payment and address details again which they already have!
Seems like they want to put people off or something.
NB there's a 2014 option too but they charge a 3% premium for that one!0 -
Ive only just come off web saver 12 to go on the online variable of which i was going to save 6% only to be told they putting up the prices and now want me to pay £40 for the privilege of saving 6% on the fix and fall?0

It's a fix. Don't fall for it.0

I have had the same letter too......
The way it's worded looks as though the fix will be from the day you set it up, it makes you think that they are offering you a fix at todays rates (pre increase).
Actually you find that it doesn't start until Nov 16th (the day the increased come into effect), as has been mentioned here the longer fix charges you an extra 3% premium...thereby you are increasing your own fuel by 9% really ...the 6% increase plus the 3% premium.
At first I thought the 3% premium was applicable when you fix now...(thereby increasing your own fuel by 3%...not the 6% general increase..thats when I read that the fix starts on Nov 16th at the new increased rate.
It's a gamble as to whether the prices will decrease....looking back ...if they do they only do so for a few months.
On the whole I don't think it's what it seems.0
