Time to retain declined receipt

Hello,

I had a failed transaction earlier today where my card didn't go through on a C+P terminal, the cashier gave me the declined receipt and I tried once again this time the transaction was successful on the same card.

How long should I keep the receipt that states the first transaction was declined? I've heard about people being double charged before so I'm wondering how long I should hold onto it. I assume it would be fine to get rid of it once the money is taken for the second transaction as they would post them in a batch but should I retain it for the full 6 months in case it's collected later?

Keep it, the actual transaction receipt and a copy of the statement showong tge completed transaction all together in an envelope for at least 2 years. They gave you a copy of the declined receipt so they sound reputable but better safe than sorry!

At the vey least untill you have checked your statement and can balance off all transactions. Plus if checking online, that you have no outstanding transactions.

Keep it for as long as you can. My friend once had a heap of debit card charges go through her account after 18 months from one of those "pay at pump" petrol stations. She knew that they had never gone through and so had the money but when she checked she had been charged on two occasions for petrol she had paid for in the kiosk because the card didn't work in the pump machine. It was only because she had kept the "declined" ticket that she got her money back! She may have been able to convince the petrol station that she wouldn't have taken two lots of petrol within minutes but it would have been a lot more hassle!

AND she was able to check what was due because she had all the receipts.....
