HP Scanner Help Please

I have bought a HP Scanjet 3200c from someone secondhand. They have sent me the scanner, a CD and two leads - one is the electric and one seems to be a USB. I have put the cd in and it says it does not work with windows Xp. I have found out how to download the drivers from the HP website.

What I really need to know is where the leads go to. The lady said the lead went into the printer but I am not at all sure. Will it automatically work once it is all connected up properly?

Any help very much appreciated as I am not a techie at all.

  • Do you have USB ports on your PC? If so, use the USB cable and forget about the other one.

If you need to connect via the older (parallel) cable, then yes, it may well go through your printer - only one end of the cable will fit into the scanner; check the back of the printer for a port which looks like it will fit the other end of the cable.

Yes I think I have USB ports as the computer is only a few months old. I will give it a go. Thanks again for your help.

It turns out that I do not have a USB cable at all. Looking on the net it is called a parallel one. I have found where it goes in the back of the scanner but where does the other end go? There is nowhere for it to go in the back of my PC or room in my printer which is a Canon BJC4200.

    Thanks for your help

  • Unplug your printer and plug the parallel cable from the scanner into the printer port on your PC. Then on the back of your scanner you should have an identical port, plug the printer cable into that..
