hi bit of an odd one. in april this year my tax credits stopped because they said we were earning to much, at the time we only had 1 child but 9 weeks ago i gave birth to our second son and it had taken until now for me to sort out my tax credit.

i filled in the form giving the exact amount that we have and would earn and all details on form were correct, i have checked my account today and there is a nice sum of money been paid into my account from child and workers tax and i have a pending one for monday for a smaller amound. i dont wish to give the amount out as obviously it is personal but i wondered if someone could maybe give me a rough guide to how much we should be recieving based on mine and my partners pay because tax credits are updating their systems and i cant get through to them until monday and i dont want to get my hopes up to much until i know that it could possibly be right, i have not yet recieved a letter from them either and my baby is in need of clothes and my partner is only off on a sunday so would like to go get some this sunday :rotfl:being a typical woman of course.

my partner earns approx £21500 pa working 48 hrs
last year i earned about£11500 while working 28hrs but because i am on maternity leave this year my income for this year is going to be about £6500 after i take off the £100 a week for while im on statatory maternity pay, tax credits know what i earned last year and what i am expected to earn this year so im a little confused what figure they take into consideration. we have 2 children one almost 5 and one 9 weeks.

any help would be greatly appreciated but i have a feeling we've been wrongly paid and they'll expect it all back. thanks in advance

also want to add that i have entered our details into the tax credits calculator and the amount we have recieved is more than what it say we'd get for a year on there so not sure if that is right or not

Assuming no childcare or disabilities, you shouldn't get any WTC, and only £712 CTC for the whole year.

For personal reasons you won't say how much tax credits you've got but you are happy to say how much you earn? I'm confused.
    Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.
  • Based on last years income for this years award with what at the time was one child the cut off point was £26k for this years award. Hence it stopped. Now you have 2 children the cut off point is £32.2K I think, so as you have given them your revised estimated income with the mat pay deduction for this year, they will be using current year earnings to base the award on. Be as accurate as you can possibly be with this figure and if anything put in too much income to avoid an overpayment at year end. Better to be underpaid a little for now and get it sorted when P60's arrive. Meanwhile enjoy the baby etc.
  • thank you. i thought we should only be having less than £1000, infact i wasnt 100% if we would get anything at all so i was really surprised when i checked my bank account but these tax credits are so confusing that i didnt really know and when i rung before they did say that it does look like were entitled, just typical that it would be when they are updating their systems and they have been closed since thursday when i checked. alot of people post on this site to say their income so i cant see anything wrong with that but you don't really read posts where people are telling everyone what amounts they have going into their bank account. from the amounts i have been quoted for the full year, just put it this way it was more than that from one payment so obviously somewhere along the line something has gone wrong and we have been overpaid. just hope i can get it sorted, just gutted that i got my hopes up for nothing, oh well maybe a win on the lottery will happen soon. thanks for the advice anyway.
  • I am sure that you will get it sorted. For now just pop it to one side and do not spend it. When HMRC have updated the site, give them a ring and ask them to check what they award is based on. However, you should get a paper award notice in the meantime anyway. I find mine normally arrive about 3-5 days later after money. That may well explain it all to you and then you'll know a bit more when you ring them up.

i have rung them today and they have informed me that they didnt have my partners estimate for this year so thats why the payments are so high, i dont know how many times i have given them our income and it was the same as last year anyway so i don't know why it wasnt based on that. got to wait again now to find out whats going on, feel so let down though because i really got my hopes up as we seemed to be always in our overdraft and i was hoping that with this lumpsum we couldof put a large amount into our joint account to get us back on track. oh well you win some...you lose some. thanks for the friendly advice anyway
