TravelRepublic flight changes and rights

Hi all,

Can anyone let me know what my rights are regarding cancellation or compensation for changed flight details booked via TravelRepublic please?

I booked flights to Iceland about a month a go and have been informed today that Iceland Express have had to change the flight details with the return flight now departing at 07:00 instead of 15:50  At the time of booking we paid a premium to get the later flight and were obviously planning to book an activity for the morning of the departure.
Are we within our rights to cancel the return flight and book with a different operator?

Contact the airline with your concerns and ask if they can find a flight time that suits you.

With a package holiday it needs to be a change of more than 12 hours before it is classed as a major change.

However this is not a package and it can be as little as 4 hours with a scheduled airline. TR are just a broker. Your contract is with Iceland Express. You need to read the T&Cs on their website to find out what they class as a major change. A major change normally means you can cancel.

As above, call the airline. However you should check the timetable on their website to see what your options are.

Not unless Iceland Express provides you with that right in their terms and conditions and even then you may have to pay a cancellation to Travel Republic.

I don't think you'll get far calling the airline. Since you booked through TR, any changes will most likely have to be made through them as well. In the future, book your flights straight from the airlinee. It's usually much easier to sort of these sorts of issues when you don't have to go through a middleman.
  • Thanks for the advice from everyone.

    Current situation is:
    1. Spoke to Iceland Express but no other flights on the same day, they said their schedules had been re-arranged and potentially I could speak to TR about cancelling.
    2. Spoke to TR and they have said I can maybe cancel both outbound and inbound flights and get a refund but couldn't just cancel the inbound flight.

So I'm waiting to see if I can have a full refund and if so will then re-book the the outbound flight with Iceland Express and inbound flight with WOW Airlines

When I did a search for flights for the return journey multiple travel agents are advertising for a flight with Iceland Express which doesn't even exist! Is this a deliberate tactic to deceive customers as they will just be informed that the flight is actually now at 07:00? Flight costs for the advertised 09:00 flight are more expensive and therefore the travel agent just increases their profit by blatantly ripping off the customer?!?

Does the 7am flight have the same flight number as the 15:50 flight?

  • Hi Richard,

No the original flight was W23503 and new flight details are W23501 therefore it looks like the original flight was cancelled, although both Iceland Express and Travel Republic haven't stated this and are just trying to say it has been rescheduled.

Sounds like the flight has been cancelled to me in which case you are always entitled to a full refund.

Ask Iceland Express to re-route you on the Wow flight because they've cancelled your flight.

Can you check the days. 501 is a weekday flight and 503 is a weekend flight

Travel Republic have refunded me in full, so I have now re-booked the flights separately and it hasn't cost me anymore.

Now I need the holiday even more to get over the stress :D
