Santander / RBS Deal Off

I thought that the computer systems were changed.
Its the issues in Spain that have caused this.
I wish you all the best of luck.
Very little had been changed. New cards issued with shorter expiry dates and changed internet banking addresses but that's it.
Santander deserve a kicking for this in my opinion.
Thanks for the best wishes - I think we'll be good. Customer feedback is likely to be positive. Until Wonga get their bid in that is :rotfl:0 -
You are completely missing several points, I'm afraid.
Firstly, if Santander were "universally detested", they wouldn't be one of the UK's least risky, and one of the world's largest banks. The "I-hate-Santander-and-if-it-kills-me" campaign by some MSErs is entirely ridiculous.
Secondly, RBS have no choice, they must sell the branches. This was part and parcel of the deal that rescued them from extinction.
Thirdly, people "threatened" by the Santander had several years to move their business from RBS to elsewhere. Some have done that. The vast majority have not - it was 1.8m affected customers at the start, it's still 1.8m customers.
A lot of long term loyal RBS customers like me (since it was Williams & Glyn's) have made the overtures to alternative Banks and were merely awaiting the final date announcement before activating the change. Standing in the queue for the cashier some months ago the chap in front of me said "The last thing I want is to be with some Dago Bank" . I think Santander realised that the rump left with RBS were not going to be happy new customers. You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0 -

I'm not surprised that there were small-minded and ill-informed customers in the Q - you probably find people with similar attitude queuing in any bank's branches.0 -
Perhaps the Spanish bank bailout wouldnt cover the cost....
I wouldnt believe abbey/santander if they paid me.I have a deep burning indifference0 -

Its difficult to see what RBS have done to earn any loyalty, having been one pf the worst managed banks and consumed vast amounts of tax payers money. I wouldnt want to move to Santander but there is no way I would continue to bank with the Government either!0 -

Loyalty is not to the name or 'brand'. Customers tell me they are loyal as they've generally been very well looked after on a personal level.0 -
Santander agreed a price that, as time moved on, was over the odds.
They wanted to back out.0 -
Royal Bank of Scotland is considering asking Brussels to let it keep the 316 branches it was ordered to sell under state aid rules, following Santander’s decision to pull out of the £1.65bn deal on Friday.
Was it ordered to sell a percentage of branches, or a percentage of its customers (i.e. its business) or both?
Has the percentage of customers in the branches involved changed since the preliminary arrangement with Santander?
Will RBS have to include more/less branches in any new sell-off?0 -

The reason I am still with RBS is the really friendly and helpful service I received from my Branch over some 40 years in both private banking and two seperate business accounts . They made a couple of minor mistakes along the way but l feel what they gave me what I wanted with a personal service. I have and am still hanging on in the hope that it might work out in the end , probably be one of the last to step off the flooded quarterdeck into the foul shark infested waters .You scullion!
