New friend for the Guinea Pig?

Hi all,
We had 2 male Guinea Pigs that were 2 years old. One of them sadly became ill and had to operated on today. However the Vet in the end had to put him to sleep today
So we are left with the one, and as he is still quite young I don't like the idea of him getting lonely in the hutch etc. I am thinking of buying another one to keep him company, but as he has not been neutered is this possible?
Would a male or female GP be best (would have to get him neutered then lol!)
Thank you

Sorry to hear the sad news. A very young boar could be an option, or neutering your other boy to get a female for company. Try to find a local rescue who will help you find the best companion - try http://www.guineapigrehome.org.uk/0

I work at a rabbit and guinea pig rescue and we will bond your existing guinea pig with a new one for you
That means you don't adopt one, find it doesn't work out, and have to return them - the rescue will find a suitable partner for your GP
You can also ask them for advice on neutering as well. Kavanne

Thank you both for your replies.
The idea of trying to bond the guinea pig with a suitable friend first sounds good. Whereabouts is the centre? We are in the South West Wilts/Glos border.0 -
The website I linked should list rescues by area if you click in the rescue centre bit

Piggy Bank UK on facebook has a map of approved guinea pig rescues, many of whom offer boar dating.
Your nearest one would porobably be Windwhistle Warren.
