On reflection maybe not such a bad payout. It's just they've been so dishonest throughout makes me suspicious that even that wasn't the whole story. Never mind, water under the bridge.

The 'systems' are designed by accountants, who make sure you, the customer, can never get to interact with anyone in the organisation with the authority to refer-up let alone exercise discretion. In short wage slave phone jockeys & call centre monkeys.
It's worth an even handed mention here that, accepting the shortcomings of E.ON in this case and the fact that Malc is but a mere employee, without his power to intervene in general, and his authority to refer-up the command chain you might have achieved peanuts or had to go all the way through the deadlock process to Ombudsman with no guarantee that the level of award would be higher.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. What exactly did Malc have to do with anything? He seemed to disappear when pressed and has gone strangely quiet now. He doesn't know who I am, He didn't help, persistance paid off in the end when I pointed out that as nearly all the bills were estimates they could hardly claim the time switch had been working!
If I wasn't going to move permanently to a boat and make my own electricity soon, I'd run a mile from Eon but hardly worth switching now. Not that I believe any of the others would have behaved any differently. It seems fair play nowadays is regarded as weak and customers just there as cash cows. Even when you are clearly owed money apparently it's fair game to try to keep it by lying. I said earlier in the thread there should be a law against this kind of behaviour. There probably is, but we know they just get round it by claiming honest mistake. It's not a mistake, but how to prove that? Just not worth the candle.0 -
Similar story, my sister got just over £1000 when she noticed her useage was far higher than expected. Some garbled telephone explaination about radio switching which meant her heating was on when she didn't choose to have it on.
Bottom line was it wasn't a faulty switch, it was the power company who supplied her with power when she hadn;t wanted it.
Can the Eon rep that replies here tell me if:
can/do power companies alter times of when cheap rate electricity os on?
Or is it same times year after year?0 -

Sorry you thought my comments in this thread unhelpful riam but glad it's been sorted.

Hi Mollie
Meter switching times vary depending on the region and metering set up at individual properties.
Multi-rate meters have a timeswitch to switch the meter between the different registers at the appropriate times. These are either mechanical or radio-tele switches.
Times are set on mechanical teleswitches and will change when the clocks go back and forwards.
With radio-teleswitches, meters receive a time signal via radio waves sent out by transmitter masts located across the region. These meters aren't affected when the clocks change.
Generally, once set, these times aren't changed. There may, though, be certain regional variations like Comfort Extra Control in the Scottish region.
Hope this answers your question Mollie. Give me a shout if you need any more info.

Malc
Thanks for your reply.
Whilst on Scottish Power White Meter I never received any kind of contract just verbal over the phone when my cheap rate would go on and off.
Looking at some of the posts on this and other threads there are 'variations' and confusion as to when and how these meters start and stop.
Wouldn't it be more open if times were quoted in contract. Rather than 'Generally once set' (means it could change) and 'variations' I am not getting at EON as I have never been a customer.
regards
