Cancelling car insurance

I changed cars at the beginning of September. I wanted my eldest son (23) to have occasional use of it so I went on a comparison site and got a quote of around £650 for the year with him and his dad as named drivers. As he is 23 I didn't think this was too bad.
Then stupidly I rang my broker and changed the car details over. I put my son down as a temporary additional driver at a cost of £32 plus the brokers fee of £15. I have rung up to add him on for another month and the cost has jumped up to £174  I am the primary user of the car it's just that I need him to pick up my other children from school/cadets/brownies when I'm working
As my cooling off period has now expired I wondered if there is anything I can do? My insurance is due for renewal at the beginning of March and I wish now I had cancelled this policy and taken out the one one the comparison site.

You can still cancel and take out and new policy if it is cost effective.
Factor in the cancellation fees and loss of the current year's ncd0 -
You can cancel at anytime whether in the cooling off period or anytime after.
But they can and probably will charge you. Check those charges BEFORE you phone to cancel. Just say your enquiring.
Cancelling say 50% through the policy may cost a lot more than 50% of the premium.
I think the change of car and adding your son on may have looked like your fronting. The is really his so they quoted to cover that.
Your cooling off period would have been from March not the date of swapping the car over.
You dont use the car for work? I would think the same. Its his car really.
You need to be careful on this...Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
As above you can cancel at any time but you need to see what penalties there are and see what works out at the better deal.
Do you need a named driver, would any driver be cheaper, which would then cover your husband and son?Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
My old firms insurance dont even insure any employee anymore.
They must have copies of all drivers before they are covered. Maybe it was a cost saving thing?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
