comet stole my money

Hiya
Dont no if i should put this here but here goes,
last year i bought a digital camera from extended warranty with that which i choose to pay via direct debit
I payed my last direct debit to them last week when i realised that i had been paying to warranties, so i rang comet and the warranty company who both blamed it on each other they claimed i had bought 2 digital cameras which i hadnt well anyway i finally managed to get some sense out of them and they agreed to give me my money back, which is all good but i was also advised to take this to a soliciter as they took money off me without my knowledge, so anyway do you think i should or wil it be a waste of time.

I suppose in theory you could claim for the loss of interest on the second policy payments, but I would take the refund of the payments and leave it at that.
I can't see the amount concerned being a huge amount of money, and the interest lost would be tiny in comparison. Is it really worth the hassle?
In future, make sure when you buy an item upfront with the warranty (I've no doubt people will be along now and say the cover probably wasn't worth buying anyway!) - you shouldn't need to hand over bank details to enstate a direct debit.2 Tickets to Blackrock Masters Tennis:j0 -
I don't know the law on this, but I wouldn't go to a solicitor. I would guess you may be entitled to interest on the money (but that wouldn't amount to much) but not much in the way of compensation unless it caused you financial problems (overdraft fees etc).
A solicitor is likely to eat up all your potential profit in fees in about the first 30 seconds! You could try simply asking the warranty company for some goodwill compensation for your inconvenience but I wouldn't pursue it if they won't.
Just be glad of the unexpected windfall and in future check your bank statements regularly to see what's being taken out.
Incidentally even if the warranty company hadn't paid you back your bank would have done under the direct debit guarantee.0 -

I think the most amazing part is that you didnt know you were paying twice as much immediately! I have about 30 DDs each month and check each one, every month.
That being said, I agree with the above post, no point in going to a solicitor. Just take the loss of interest, which will be pennies, and take from it that you need to check your financies more careful from now on!0
