Walls are a mess

Hi,
The walls in my living room are an absulute mess. Bumps, gashes, grooves etc because of general wear and due to the fact a stone fireplace used to sit against one.
I've been thinking of having a painter and decorator come in to do the living room and was just thinking if a painter and decorator would actually be able to sort out these imperfections.
And if anyone in the glasgow area could recommend a good decorator

decorators are used to filling small cracks etc, but large problems will require a plasterer.
have a go yourself. skim it with filla and sand it down with an electric sander.
or plasterboard the whole chimney breast.Get some gorm.0 -
The gashes and grooves have probably been caused by a HEEDTHEBA ! stripping the walls at one time , the walls might need totaly plastered, but try and find a good plasterer these days, BIG PROBLEM !
You could if you have time, repair the walls yourself, the gashes and grooves, but not the bumps, then employ a decorator , who could put up heavy duty lining paper, allowing the walls to be painted.
Post back if you req; info to repair the walls.0
