Right here is the deal with any Energy Company which everyone needs to know.

They like to triple estimates and ignore genuine meter readings.

The following will happen when you open a new contract.

    1. You give them your meter reading. You go about your business.

    2. 3 months later the electricity company finds the average energy usage in your area and then doubles it. They call this your estimate.

    3. You get a debit (debt) of a figure near £300 in your account and for the next 9 months your payments slowly reduce this number.

    4. 9 months down the line they make another estimate with their bogus unfair calculating method until you catch on and demand an explanation.

    5. They ask you for your actual meter reading. You think you have saved a big bulk of cash but that is nothing to the scams they pulled with previous estimated figures during the estimated meter readings you ignored.

So how do you get round this? Simple you keep the meter reading from the previous Energy supplier.

Npower currently say I owe them £500!

However Npower actually owe me £100.

I gave them a meter reading in December when I opened my account.
They probably don't have this on file anymore but I have a letter from E-on with it on.

They decided to give me a estimate in 10th April 2012 and in 10th October 2012.

If I give them a meter reading over the phone my Bill will go right down to £200.

However I know how they work. I am going to tell them I know my meter reading from December 2011.

Soon as they hear that they will know they owe me money. But they will lie as usual and try and con me even when they know Im on to their scam.

The thing is with NPower is they won't acknowledge they are in the wrong until you have enough legal power to sue them.

Anyway Christmas is going to come early. If they don't reduce my bill Im taking them to court and get a good £20,000 out of them.

Be warned NPower. Some of your customers actually have powerful solicitors in their families.

Did you switch from Eon to Npower? If so, readings travel via separate agents to the suppliers via data flows. These leave a full audit trail so it will be on record.

Why do Eon have it but not Npower? As the new supplier, Npower would pass it to Eon via the agents. Or did you just give it to Eon, which could mean they didn't send it anywhere and Npower's agent had to Deem one, hence the estimate?

You need to establish this or you could be aiming this at the wrong party.

In terms of estimation, they may use pre built routines or the industry consumption. If the latter, that's industry standard and fully approved. If the former, it depends what it's doing but you should rule everything you can out before going this far.

    The poster specifically states

#1 "It took them ages to send a new bill which i paid the day it arrived."

#4 "My reason for requesting a rebill was a gross underestimate.

I owed them more than they stated."

Therefore Npower rep and macmans replies makes no sense - there should be no balance from the estimated bill if he / she has already paid a revised bill - and a higher one at that

You can complain to their Executive complaints team if you wish - though I make you no promises about them listening or not. see http://www.npower.com/idc/groups/wcms_content/@wcms/@busi/documents/digitalassets/puttingthingsright100108.pdf

If your complaint is not resolved within 8 weeks you can also take it to the Energy Ombudsman if you wish

Didnt get any more demands so i guess my payment 'arrived'

Was interested to see a letter informing of a price rise in novemeber.

So it seems npower were trying to pull a fast one and bill me for the additional units later on when prices were higher.

Im pretty sure that this was their intention anyway and I am probably one of millions...

    These crooks need watching carefully!

Macman, i think you missed the point completely... read through it again...

    Update:

This month they have tried to fiddle me yet again!

I received my 'estimates' this time they were higher.

So i called and gave my lower readings.

    Bill arrived and its MORE

Npower are really taking the mickey right??

    How can it go up?

Im going to have to take this further now, how much money are they robbing from other unsuspecting victims?

You know what, unless their estimates are WAYYY out I just pay them what it says on the bill.

I tried sending them accurate meter readings and waiting for the revised bill, but then you get threatening letters, etc (even though you've not actually received the new bill yet!!)

NPower are known to be draconian about sending out reminder letters and threats. I think the reminder letters actually go out the day the bill is due to be settled, because we've paid by the due date and still got a red letter. If you phone them the staff just tell you there's nothing they can do to stop these letters being sent out.
