Mystery 'customer meter readings' switching NPower > Scottish Power

Anyone else having probs transferring to Scottish Power?
I'm transferring from NPower to one of Scottish Power's fixed rates. Haven't heard anything from Scottish Power since 'we're in the process of switching you, we'll email you to ask for readings when the time comes'.
Now I've just had my final gas bill from NPower with a 'customer reading' of 7934. Now I haven't given them - or Scottish Power - this reading and my meter actually reads 7750. So where did they get this figure from? NPower think that they have received it from Scottish Power. NPower can't refund me the difference because they've closed the account. Scottish Power are presumably starting my new account with this incorrect balance.
And now I'm waiting for the same to happen with the Electricity account as NPower say that they ceased to supply me on 27 Sept but don't have a meter reading yet from me or Scottish Power.
Grrr  Just worried that I'm caught between the two of them - NPower charging me and Scottish Power supplying incorrect information. Will either of them manage to refund me??
This system sucks.

If your NPower tariff was cheaper than your new SP tariff at least you'll be better off.

As long as the start reading with SP is the same as the closing reading from nPower, you are not owed a refund and no one will be interested in changing anything.
If they are not the same, then you will have grounds for complaint0 -
Um, but this means I've paid NPower for more energy than I've used.0

Err...yes, but the only test is that the SP opening reading is the same in which case you will not pay for the same energy twice.
*If* NPower and SP have agreed the transfer reading, you may pay NPower more but probably at a lower rate. In time that is a win for you.
One final point, the fact that a deemed or agreed read differs from actual suggest to me you didn't provide many customer reads to NPower.0 -
Hmm, maybe I'm missing something here. If I pay NPower for a meter reading of 7934 to 30 September when I had only used gas to a reading of 7750, then even if Scottish Power start charging me fairly from 1 October from a new starting point of 7934 then there's a missing chunk of 184 Units somewhere, no?
What is worrying is that where this supposed 'customer reading' has come from.
And I supplied NPower with readings all the time, but they don't recalculate all that frequently (every 6 months).0 -
If both suppliers have the same reading of 7934 then it means you will pay NPower for the 184 units from 7750 to 7934 at whatever their tariff price is and then you will start paying SP from 7934 onwards at their tariff price. There will be no missing units because you will use that gas.
If NPower's tariff you are on now is cheaper than your new SP tariff then NP will charge you less for those 184 units than SP and you win.
If NPower's tariff you are on now is dearer than your new SP tariff then NP will charge you more for those 184 units than SP and you lose.
Seemples!

I see!
Thank you Toxteth_O'Grady.
Because when I send my next meter readings to Scottish Power they'll only charge me for the difference between 7934 and whatever I'm on then and therefore will be undercharged which will more or less compensate for being overcharged now.
Still confused about where these 'readings' have come from and why Scottish Power haven't actually asked for any before switching me, but sounds as though it's not likely to be a huge problem as the SP tariff is only a bit cheaper than NP (I switched more for the longer term fix rather than massive savings).0 -
I'm sorry, but I misread your original post. I thought the difference in meter readings was just 16 metered units.

As it is now clear that the difference is in fact 184 metered units, (relating to >2000kWh), I think you have grounds to raise a disputed reading complaint. (as I believe the threshold is 1200kWh where a gas supply is involved)0 -
