I really thought I could do it this year!

But I am quickly realising that I am not going to be able to.
I really thought that I could really go for it and get my credit cards paid off, but I feel that no matter how much money I throw at them, I am still a million miles away.
If I get my 2k bank charges back that will make a dent, but I am sick of my life being on hold!
I can't get an extra job as I have a full on job that won;t allow for that. I am just so sick of working all the hours god sends, and having nothing to show for it at the end of the month, as it just goes on debt.
The reality is I am not going to go into 2008 debt free, and I really thought I could.
Sorry to rant everyone, I just know everyone on here will understand.

So come on - spill the beans. How much are you paying off per month, and when do you think your DFD will be?

Do you mystery shop? Matched Betting? What do you work as?

  • Well I have just worked out that over the next 8 months I will need to pay £625 a month on the HSBC (not inc interest) Currently pay £260
£437 a month on Mint (not inc interest) Currently pay £100 (but if I get my bank charges back I can reduce this debt by approx 2k)
Barclaycard I am paying in full at the end of this month
I also have a loan that I have not listed above, which I pay £231 a month.
I am just being un-realistic with myself, and I know i can afford to pay more now I have paid off other debts, but not as much as I need to.

Truth is I don't know the exact interest i am paying on the above, I need to phone and find out tomorrow and get myself a snowball calculator done. I have fallen off the wagon somewhat!

I'd recommend the Matched Betting. We're a friendly and helpful lot over on that board - and you'll probably recognise a few people from here, but for obvious reasons some people keep quiet about it.
Go and have a read - it might not be for you - but there's no harm in looking.

Thanks, maybe I should take a look, I have to say I have had a nosey before and I just didn't get it. I think I will print off an idiots guide and sit reading it whilst drinking a nice cuppa, usually helps the brain to work.

Becky you are doing so well - don't give up!

Any chance of moving some of your debt over to a 0% card, then you wouldn't have to think about interest?
You'd need to work out the balance transfer fee though!

I did hope you bought things for your company - quidco would be your friend.

You *must* pay the absolute minimum payments on everything but the debt you are attacking. You only know which one that is, by comparing interest rates. Your wage is your weapon, you must stick it in where it has the most effect.

But also - don't be so hard on yourself - OK?

Thanks Pippo, I have tried, but I have shot my credit rating so nobody will touch me! Would make life so much easier though.

  • Thanks ZTD, words of wisdom indeed! I am going to make myself a full SOA, as I am pretty sure I could do better. I am going to find out all my interest rates tomorrow, I am sure I will feel better once I have a more solid plan.
You are right I am too hard on myself, but I feel like I have wasted my 20s on paying off debt. I had more money when I was a student, I am sure of it.
I am going to do this, 'positive thinking'
